Movie Conventions Research: Saw X

Image
Saw X is a unique installment in the horror genre. Camera angles and movements include high angle shots as a lot of scenes are in the perspective of a security camera. Also eye level shots are used to portray the fear of Jigsaw's victims in the detailed deadly contraptions he calls his "traps".  Zooming in and medium close up shots are also used. Costumes and props are the iconic jigsaw puppet and tricycle, and editing and sound include mostly diegetic sound.I like the eye level shots that showcase the panic and emotions of some of the characters. Simple and innocent concepts like puppets and tricycles are also morphed into a very terrifying villain that imposes extreme fear into Jigsaw's victims. Lastly, I like how diegetic sound from the traps and surrounding environment.I dislike the use of the security cameras being used for the perspective, and the high angle shots. The only reason being it would be extremely difficult to replicate for use in my project. I also

Movie conventions Research: Cocaine Bear

Image
The camera angle in the movie appealed to me. They had a great use of camera angle that intensified what was happening in the scene and properly showed the bear as a true threat. The movie uses eye level shots to shot the fear in the characters face and wide shots to show the environment around them and show the size of the bear. The movie also shows the bear at multiple low angle shots to create fear into the audience.  We'll probably end up using the camera angles in the same way as in the movie to show the slasher as an intimidating threat. In some parts the movie creates tension in a compelling way and has an interesting premise. The rest of the movie didn't take itself serious and ruined most moments due to it being a horror/comedy. The overall plot of the story was boring and failed to show the bear as an antagonist that strikes fear into people other than killing a person and occasionally appearing out of nowhere and shocking the characters in the movie and the audience

Movie Conventions Research: Brightburn

Image
The movie uses nondiegetic audio such as horror themes, these are used to create suspense and fear. They make the villain "Brightburn" use a mask to hide his identity and to create more fear out of his victims. Over the shoulder shots are used with the villain to display the victims reactions to the villain attacking/revealing themselves. I liked the use over the should shots since it further emphasized the helplessness that the victims felt. I felt sometimes they used too many of the same camera angels during the movie which kind of made the scenes seem the same or repetitive. .

Genre Decision

Image
Together as a group we decided to go for horror. We decided this since we all agreed that horror movies is what we know the most about. Mostly all of us watched tons of horror movies with a mix of other genres. Horror is also a fairly easy genre to replicate since we just have to create enough fear in the audience that they actually are scared. It was between horror and comedy, but we all agreed that horror is easier and more interesting to create an opening scene for.

Genre - Comedy

Image
Comedy  is a  movie genre  that is intended to make audiences laugh and amuse them. Comedy films are designed to be funny and entertaining. These films can take many forms, including  stand-up comedy ,  sketch comedy ,  sitcoms , and  comedic films.  The comedy genre is defined by events that are intended to make someone laugh. It doesn't matter if the story is macabre, droll, or zany. They use camera angels like, wide shots, medium shots, then they use things like The push, this is used to really display a characters comedic reaction. They will usually wear goofy outfits like clown suits, props that are wiggly and sound funny like an airhorn. They will edit peoples faces or bodily features to look wonky and out of proportion. They will often add in Non-Diegetic sounds like laugh tracks to make the film seem funnier. I like the humor and that I usually don't have to take it serious. Sometimes when humor is used incorrectly it can make the film corny and not likeable.

Genre - thriller

Image
Thriller genre is a type of literature and film that creates  suspense ,  excitement , and  anxiety .   Some popular examples of thriller books include The Da Vinci Code, The Girl on the Train, and Gone Girl .   The genre is well-suited to film and television mainly. It generally  keeps its audience on the “edge of their seats” as the plot builds towards a climax.   Thrillers are often villain-driven plots, whereby they present obstacles that the protagonist or hero must overcome. Low angle shots are used a lot to emphasize difference in characters power and so are High angle shots to emphasize powerlessness. They use zoom a lot to zoom into characters who are displaying a lot of emotion or tilt to emphasize anxiousness. They will use things like slowdowns or speedups that are edited in to create suspense. Thriller films often use masks to hide characters and their emotions, mirrors to show a person and often represent their emotions, and letters. They will add in non-diegetic suspen

Genre - Horror

Image
Horror is a genre of fiction that is intended to disturb, frighten or scare. Horror is often divided into the sub-genres of psychological horror and supernatural horror, which are in the realm of speculative fiction.  Horror intends to create an eerie and frightening atmosphere for the reader. Often the central menace of a work of horror fiction can be interpreted as a metaphor  for larger fears of a society. There are many horror movies in the movie industry such as Friday the 13th which has placed its mark in pop culture. They often will use low angle shots to represent a character fleeing with a character in pursuit or a Dutch  angle to show the horror character before the person runs. They often use items like machetes, have dark uniforms, masks, fake blood, and other things to make the film more scary. They often add Diegetic sounds like screaming, yelling, and nondiegetic scary music to further add to suspense and fear. I enjoy being scared by a good horror movie with a good st

Our Pitch

Image
For our first idea, we plan to do a horror movie where one of us will dress as a slasher and the rest of us will dress like innocents. Throughout the scene we plan to have different cuts with people getting "murdered" and at the end we will have a scream. Our second pitch is crime/horror movie with an unknown serial killer on the loose.  With our first pitch we plan to have one of us dress as a serial killer. The rest of us will be innocent bystanders getting "slashed" and we try to run away in the scenes. With every new person mentioned a new person gets slashed in the scenes. For the ending scene we will either have someone grab the weapon before cutting out or have a scream at the end. This is to create a feeling of intrigue to know if the person died or not.  For our second pitch we will have one person be a detective and one a serial killer with the rest being innocent people. In the beginning, we will have the killer murdering people and the detective trying t

As of today Me, Daniel, Jacob, and Myles will be working together for our Final Task. We will have to find good days to meet up since we don't exactly live near each other. We also have to manage our time, so we won't have to do everything last second. Together as a group we haven't decided what genre we wanted to do but we will likely do horror/thriller. Since I have always been a horror fan and I personally want to get creative with it. We decided to separate our work, so we don't all have to do stuff separately to save time. My friend Myles will be the cameraman since he has the best camera and prefers not to be in the video. Since horror/thriller movies have a lot of chilling/fast paced scenes our movie scene will have some of that. Daniel will buy resources for us to use to make the music video higher quality. Jacob, Me, and Daniel will all be in the music video assigned to different roles. Depending on what we choose we will also have to wear different costumes

Hello, my name is Mario born on November 15th, 2007. I am not originally from America and was born of the country of El Salvador. English has always been a bit of a struggle for me since I am a native Spanish speaker but with practice I’ve got better. El Salvador is a huge sports country, so I’ve always been a soccer player playing all the time with friends and family. Coming to America for the first time I was fascinated by the amount of technology and got hooked on computers. Sometimes I would write entire blogs on my computer that no one would read just for fun. Being a technology fan, I would always like playing video games and sometimes would compete in tournaments. I’ve progressed a lot academically going from classes that provided additional aid to advanced classes. I always loved America for the delicious food they would have from various different cultures I would have never seen. However, I don’t like how divided America seems at times over things that barely even affect the
